Friday, December 22, 2006 about four foot - pronation>since i'm selling footwear, i shall educate you readers abit about how your foot behaves, how you walk and what kind of shoes you should be wearing. in this 1st article, i shall talk about 'pronation'. Definition Over-pronation, or flat feet, is a common biomechanical problem that occurs in the walking process when a person's arch collapses upon weight bearing. This motion can cause extreme stress or inflammation on the plantar fascia, potentially causing severe discomfort and leading to other foot problems. Cause Over-pronation is very prominent in people who have flexible, flat feet. The framework of the foot begins to collapse, causing the foot to flatten and adding stress to other parts of the foot. As a result, over-pronation, often leads to Plantar Fasciitis, Heel Spurs, Metatarsalgia, Post-tib Tendonitis and/or Bunions. There are many causes of flat feet. Obesity, pregnancy or repetitive pounding on a hard surface can weaken the arch leading to over-pronation. Often people with flat feet do not experience discomfort immediately, and some never suffer from any discomfort at all. However, when symptoms develop and become painful, walking becomes awkward and causes increased strain on the feet and calves. Treatment and Prevention Over-Pronation can be treated conservatively (non-surgical treatments) with over-the-counter orthotics. These orthotics should be designed with appropriate arch support and medial rearfoot posting to prevent the over-pronation. Footwear should also be examined to ensure there is a proper fit. Footwear with a firm heel counter is often recommended for extra support and stability. Improperly fitting footwear can lead to additional foot problems. If the problem persists, consult your foot doctor. source: foot.com hope you guys had gained better knowledge about your foot. stay tuned here for more information!

Tuesday, December 12, 2006 sports = singapore? the dream is coming ... soon>singapore bagged a total of 3 golds, 4 silvers and 9 bronzes so far in the 2006 asian games. not bad for a young country. however, i believe that in time to come, we will definitely be able to excel in such sporting events even better. but i think other than the government brainstorming talent schemes for youngsters (take sports school for example), parents' mindset has to play a part too! i still remember the days when my parents told me to just study hard and get good grades and not to spend too much time and commitment into my cca. but times has changed. gone are the days where only a few people in the cohort scores straight 'a's. now everyone has straight 'a's. what differnetiate you from the others are your capabilitilies shown through the cca you take part in. and i strongly believe that sports is the best in developing our younger ones both physically and mentally to the max. there's teamwork in soccer; determination shown in events like badminton, table tennis, running.. and the list just goes on. with the younger generation becoming parents, i'm sure that a shift in mindset of these younger parents can contribute to the success of the sports arena in singapore.

Tuesday, December 05, 2006 marathon completer>5 hours of suffering... 5 hours of ironwill and determination. after that, a sense of jubilation upon crossing the finish line. arms raised to signify victory. nothing beats that feeling. my first marathon. although the timing was a little disappointing, partly attributing it to having done not enough build - up training and also not keeping to a regular pace, resulting in cramps on both thighs during the ecp leg of the race. nevertheless, a round of applause for me and my achievement. my friend asked me to run the ultra - marathon this year end. well, i'll consider 1st. haha. can use that as my training run for ironman langkawi. =)
now i shall work towards my next target - ironman langkawi.
