Friday, July 27, 2007 rag. ragging.>it was a really hectic week. with 2 stayovers in school, tuitions, adminstuff to settle at school, checking into my hostel and on sunday, i will be doing a spring cleaning of my room.
rag dance is really getting fun. with everyone in high spirits and trying their best during the rehearsals. i am glad that i had also improved, from being expressionless to a man with some expression. haha. at least i can act act abit now =). yesterday's night practice was particularly tiring. the day started off with a normal practice of all the scenes from 9am till 1pm. then, we rested till 10pm, before continuing on our night routine till about 4.30am in the morning. this is definitely much worse than army night training and i must admit that it was super mundane to go through the same scenes over and over again... and i was 'brain - dead' by about 1 plus already... haha... luckily there was johnathan to sing toasts to everyone to liven up the spirit, esther and alvan who always get 'high' by themselves and gave us something interesting to watch... haha... rag dancers are really a close knit group of people. and yes! we are the only crazy faculty to practice overnight =).
its down to the last two weeks, before the actual performance on 11 august. 7 more parctices to go. really hope that all of our dry runs will be better and better and so.... we will win the chancellor's shield for science faculty.

Sunday, July 22, 2007 singapore - towards a gracious society>today i was at chinatown mrt station toilet, after having a sumptuous dinner... or maybe it was too good, butterflies were born in my stomach.. so poor me had to go use the toilets. but so unfortunately, it happened that the cubicles at the mrt station were occupied, and a fellow male and i were queuing to use the cubicle. so i asked him if all the cubicles are occupied, then he exclaimed that he waited for ten plus minutes and yes, no one has came out yet!!! haha... then i signed to him and told him i had a bad stomachache. the moment a person came out from the cubicle, he let me used it first... how kind of him =)
anyway, today i had a fun time building my timetable in CORS, the nus website. think it sucks not having a fixed timetable and cirriculum. but then it gives me the flexibility of planning my own activities. if i had planned correctly, then my mondays are packedwith lectures from 10am - 8pm non stop, tuesday starts from 8am - 8pm, but with a 2 hours break from 12pm - 2pm, wednesday is super slack, with 1 lecture from 12pm - 2pm, thursday is packed from 9am to 5.30pm, and friday is from 8am to 12.30pm... hope its correct...=)

Thursday, July 19, 2007 >it has been a hectic week for me, for the past 4 days. i have been waking up at 6.30am in the morning, and my activities goes non stop till about 11pm when i actually hit my bed and sleep. my life has had been pre-occupied largely by rag dance. and the remaining by tuition. yes. i still have 6 students now... but i will eventually cut to 3 by the end of this month.
finally, i managed to relax a little today... did the moe induction programme, at the moe hq today. got to met up with some of the new faces that i have met the week before at obs. everyone was dressed to impress... with the girls putting on their nicest make-up and the guys looking like businessmen in their formal attire. the induction programme was so-so. it included a ice-breaker game arly in the morning, where we had to design a 'cool' attire for the teacher of the 21st century, using newspaper, magazine, masking tape... haha... really lame game and i gave my team the highest level of support that i could - eye power =P. next was history lesson on the moe, followed by tea break and then, a rather inspiring talk by the principal of northlight school.. northlight school is a school that accepts psle repeat students. it uses innovative ways to arouse the students' interests in studying and helps to prepare them for life in the working society. the principal gave a very heartening and inspiring talk by sharing with us her passion for teaching and in guiding these lost children back onto the correct path.
home sweet home. yeah! originally thought of going to polo ralph to but the berms that had caught my eye, but guess i would do it tomorrow after the rag dance. need to buy some berms, shirts, socks, and i want a pair of new running shoes too!!! went home, legs started feeling itchy, and i went for my 1st 5km run since last saturday. really felt good to don my runnign shoes again. clocked 25mins. hmm.. acceptable.. still thinking should i join the marathon this year end =)

Saturday, July 14, 2007 freedom!>finally, i got my hands back on the bike. great workout. never had such workouts for so long already. was averaging a 32.5kmh for 30km at changi coastal road this morning. short distance but a fast ride. actual speed actually ranged from 35 - 39kmh.. haha... maybe should do such rides more often... then i can go longer distances at such speed. and maybe if i ride to school next time, i might just take about an hour. faster than the mrt and its FREE!
result: the feeling of freedom, slicing through the air. happiness and joy. a sumptuous breakfst with eric and friends then after. then straight to tuition at boon lay. arghhh... all the way from the right hand side to the left hand side of singapore. slept to and fro. haha... guess i am just too tired from the past few days of dancing around and have not fully recovered from obs yet.
but then again. there are times when you feel down, you feel disappointed, unhappy with the things around you. but what i feel is that as long as you commit yourself to doing something, you make sure that you keep your promise, fufill your commitment and complete te task. yeap, sometimes things might not go the way you want, but it is those trying times that helps shape your character and eventually, you will emerge a stronger person. remember this: do not be a follower, because what your friend(s) like to do might not be what you want. always go wherever your passion brings you. in that way, you can go further, last longer, and perform better.=)

Wednesday, July 11, 2007 finally>after 2 hectic weeks, 2 camps back to back.
obs was quite fun after all. thought it would actually be boring since i had been there before already. we went through the same kind of obstacles and went on both land and sea expedition. but i guess that once again, its the people that makes the difference. and this time was a little different from the last time that i went - during sec 3. after going through ns, living in so called bunks and going to stay outfield is no longer a fear for myself. i've learnt how to manage myself much much better as compared to 6 years ago.
back to singapore, back to reality. dance practice - physically tiring. but i thought it was worthwhile given that i think this will be the only time i will do this in my life. tuition - mentally draining. but for the sake of money, i will have to keep on giving tuition... at least till the end of this month.

Monday, July 02, 2007 rag dance>rag dance is tough.. at least for me. cos i totally had no dance background. but hope that through more practice session things will turn for the better and i will be able to dance as in really dance more gracefully. looks like to make this rag successful, i have to put in a substantial amount of commitment, just like the rest. and this will nevertheless, require some sacrifice in some other areas of my life. so well, i shall temporarily cut down on my cycling and training. well, to some of you readers, cutting down on running, swimming or cycling might not be a big deal... but these three sports really matters to me alot. like i've already dedicated a whole year of training to them already. so hmm... after 5 days of scamp and non-excercise, i do feel quite abit lethargic. haha. a cycling buddy of mine just called me out to cycle tomorrow morning at 4am, but had to reject him. sigh... how i wished i could go cycling... haha... breathe the morning cool fresh air, and enjoy the car - free roads. but well, its all back again to prioritising my goals. as for now, it will be to help science faculty win rag and flag. =D all the way science fac!

Sunday, July 01, 2007 scampsation!!! 07 rox>it has been 7 days or so since my last post. haha. been a really busy week for me last week. 1st had been overwhelmed by the sheer fun and excitement that i had in scamp 07. all the fellow freshies and seniors were just wonderful.
orientation might be all the same, all the way from your secondary school years up till your university years. and yes indeed, the games, activities, programmes are almost the same! like blowing ping pong balls out of a pail of flour, to having fright nights, but i think what matters most is the people around you. they are the ones who keep you going during times you feel like dropping out of the camp because the activities are too boring. they are the ones who made you realise that you are not the only one who is feeling alone during the camp. they are the ones who cheer you on at the games, indulge in your crappiness and so on.. so i think without this bunch of great people that i have met through scamp 07, i would'nt know what my uni life would be like. anyway the kbox session was real cool. our whole og can sing! haha. at least from the basic of 'do re mi' to all of those damn pro songs that kang yang can sing marvellously. =)
anyway, must really give a round of applause to all of our seniors who have made this scamp experince so wonderful for us and also fellow blackkite mates for the wonderful time that we have had spent together during the last few days. and of course, we should try as much as possible to keep this great friendship ongoing forever and ever... haha... looking forward to our 1st dinner next wednesday!=D and do join rag camp! i'm going!
.. back to what i usually rant about.. haha... boring stuff about my self imposed training. total disaster this weekend.. haha... only managed a 10km run yesterday and 50km cycle this morning. timing wise... hmmm sightly below average.. but hope it improves soon, given the minimal time that i have for this month... haha... bogged down with camps and moe activities... gonna be real busy.
